How can I connect a non HD digibox to a full HDTV?

Hi, I have an 40″ Samsung full HD tv, and I want to connect the non HD digibox to the HDTV. What do I need, to get a better picture quality, not necesarily HD? There is no option in getting an HD receiver.
I already connected the 3 RCA (red, yellow, white) AV cable, but the picture is poor.
Thank you

If your digi box has an hdmi out port then use that.

If not, then you are stuck with either RCA or SCART.

My 40″ Samsung does a pretty good at upscaling when connected to my DVD player via scart.

Also, try different picture options in the TV menu, for example, turn the sharpness down a bit, and turn the mpeg noise filter on (in advanced or picture menu).

Note, if you have a medium or poor signal, then the picture will look very poor on a larger screen, which was not very apparent on a smaller screen.

I personally watch non HD freeview through a BTVision box which has a hdmi connection. The image is acceptable.

You should also be sitting a fair distance from the TV, if you are too close (less than 3 metres) you will notice the artefacts. If you can’t sit that far away from the TV then you should have gone 32″ unless you had HD Freeview.

How much would a used Sharp Aquos 37 In. Flat Panel HDTV be worth?

Sharp Aquos 37 In. Flat Panel HDTV
I’m considering buying, but I think the selling price is too high. Seller says the unit is 1 year old and in good condition.

I so wouldn’t buy one. You have 0 idea how much actual wear and tear is on it. Okay you go and look at it and it looks great. So no surface damage. Big damn deal. How do you know he didn’t buy it as a floor model (which typically have years of life taken off of them) or he didn’t have the settings cranked and tear off a bunch of the years on it? Now he might well not have, and it could be a legit sell/buy, BUT, its a huge risk. I don’t think I’d pay more than $250 for it frankly.

Right now at best buy, on sale, you can get a Panasonic 42″ TC-P42X1 Plasma for $600. That is an amazing TV. And that’s a ridiculous low price for it. And its 5″ bigger. So we’re talking LCD (weaker technology), Sharp (somewhat weaker brand), and used. So if I’m buying that I’m paying less than 50% of what I could get new right now.

How do you set 1080p viewing on new Panasonic Viera plasma tv?

I have recently bought the Panasonic Viera TH42PZ85BA plasma tv and have SKY HD+ installed but all programmes show that it’s 1080i input instead of 1080p. Tried to find details in the manual on how to change the picture but no proper detail on it. Any help appreciated thanks.
Forgot to add that the tv is Full HD enabled, so it’s not that it doesn’t support 1080p to begin with.

Broadcast resolution is maximum 1080i at this time. What your tv does is receive the 1080i signal and then upconverts it to 1080p. What you see, is 1080p. Blu Ray players and newer game systems can provide 1080p to your tv. Otherwise, the tv has to do the upconverting, it does it automatically with any signal it receives and you can’t do anything to set it.

A lcd hdtv i am buying has a computer input. Will it look just as good as my computer monitor? it would save me some space.

It may depend on the make, but it will work well as a computer monitor.

I got my laptop hooked up to my LCD TV using an inexpensive VGA cable (same as the cable from your CPU to the computer monitor) to view my jpeg digital pictures. I could use the mouse to find my photo directories, veiw photos as a slide, etc.

When I hooked up the cable, I had the option of using the TV as the computer monitor or have both the laptop screen and the TV display on.

You need to look up the resolution on your tv, I don’t know what integrated HDTV means. When you check your tv’s specs look at the second number on the resolution line, 720? 1080? That will tell you the resolution. If it’s 1080p, and you hook up your blu ray with an HDMI cable, it will be full HD.

I have been told i wont be able to tell the difference if im sitting 3-4m from the t.v and i dont watch and blu-ray movies. I will only be using it for watching t.v and playing my xbox 360.
Thanx for your help

With a 42″ screen or larger you will notice a difference. I would spring for the better resolution, you don’t want to compromise your gaming experience.

i have an sharp aquos lcd tv and i cant get surround sound working?

i have a sharp aquos lcd tv and i just got a dish hd reciever. we have a surround sound box in the entertainment system. how do i hook up the surround sound to the tv so i can get sound whenever i switch inputs for example, it works with the satalite but when i switch the imput to imput 4, for the wii, i still get the satalite sound?

The easiest way to control it is to use your TV as the hub, all the connections to the TV and then the audio out of the TV to the Sound System. That won’t get you the best sound though. Your Wii and Satelite are connected to the TV directly and should be connected to the sound system directly. This means that when you switch inputs on the TV you will have to change inputs on the sound system as well. To make it easier and keep the better sound you can connect all audio and video connections to the receiver and send the video out to the TV. This will only work if your Surround system has an audio/video receiver as part of it.
