Ray-Bernice Alexandra Kaiser Eames was a renowned American designer, filmmaker and artist. Many of the iconic designs of the twentieth century is attributed Ray Eames along with her husband Charles, who also had a wonderful career in the same field though now deceased.

Having lived in several cities during his tender age, Ray Eames was born in Sacramento, California moved to New York in 1933. This is where she first studied abstract painting with Hans Hoffman, that finally led to design furniture later. Ray Eames began her studies at the Canbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, late in 1940, where finally met her husband to be Charles Eames. They both had similar career options and married the following years and settled in Los Angeles, California.

Charles and Ray Eames and her husband Charles led an exemplary career in design and architecture. Both Ray and Charles Eames and in the new series "of architects. This is an innovative project whose main objective is to highlight objects and furniture designed by some of the most renowned architects of the 20th century.

Ray Eames along with her husband Charles are best known for his contributions to industrial design, film, photography and furniture design especially the Eames chair and architecture. After marrying in 1941, they moved to California. Its here their furniture design career in plywood all began. Previously, both Ray and Charles found the need to provide high quality furniture and yet affordable.

For many years, the Eames tried different ways to meet this challenge. They designed chairs used in all sorts of places ranging from collapsible sofas for homes, chairs for airports, stadiums, schools and offices. Most of these chairs were designed in four materials of Herman Miller. They were designed in cast aluminum, bent and welded wire mesh and as fiberglass reinforced plastic.

According to Ray Eames, the main issue was to seek a back seat and comfortably supporting the body human using flexible materials instead of cushioned upholstery or three-dimensional shape of surfaces. According to Ray Eames, what works is better than what looks good since what it works, it works, but what looks good can change.

The immediate concern Ray Eames was going to come up with shell, not a single one that is comfortable, without shock absorbers, but also can be mass produced. This concept was experimented with Eames, along with their colleagues around the age of 40. The Eames chairs developed for the museum of modern art using ecological designs.

Ray Eames along with fiberglass chair of her husband solved the problem of getting a seat of one body-shell installation. It became even more attractive to the Eames plywood with the progressive quality and mobility of fiberglass materials compared with stamped metal or plywood.

Zenith Plastics had used fiberglass to reinforce plastic on airplane radar domes that turned be a great success. The Eames Zenith and re-conceptualized the use of fiberglass material that created one of the very first plastic chairs a piece that had a surface exposed rather than the upholstered surface.
