This coffee table design submission was created by Kyle Buckner a student at VCU. The coffee table was a project made as an assignment for a sculpture glass that required a medium of wood. Kyle provided these comments:

“I stacked multiple layers of pine plywood, gluing each layer together. Once dried, I ground down all layers to one fluid shape. The surfaces were then properly prepared for the red mahogany stain and polyurethane. 1/4″ glass was also custom cut and used to complete the coffee table. The smaller glass on top has two 3″ holes cut out, and when assembled, these serve as cup-holders.” Via – Kyle Buckner.

Freshome showcased this concept furniture designed for a small kitchen. The kitchen table is called “Accordion” and it was designed by Russian designer, Olga Kalugin. The neat thing about the design is its ability to expand as well as the cool storage areas. I also find the contemporary appearance a “fresh look”. This concept is an entry at the International Design Award in 2009.

Made from rattan and water hyacinth, both sustainable materials, the double armchair makes it possible to live green and enjoy your significant other’s company in an unconventional way. As this might seem to be on the Utopia domain, you just might reconsider rejecting the idea, because in concept is brilliant.

Just look at this lovely table you see here, then let me introduce you to the plants it’s got growing on it. Tillandsias, also known as Air Plants grow without soil, feeding instead on the moisture it finds in the air (dust, decaying leaves and insect matter). These plants rely on a host structure for support, but don’t worry, the table wasn’t alive to begin with.*

But then again, the table wouldn’t be killed by this whole ordeal, as *the Tillandsias that grow on top of it use a host structure simply for structural support. Seems like a fair deal to me.

These tables are made for the freshening of a home, as the Tillandsias absorb CO2 from the air and produce oxygen in the night. The table is the perfect vessel for this magical transmission, as it’s right in the center of all the action. That’s where the cat usually is in my apartment. No chewie, kitty!
